“Okay Maps” Easter Egg Brings Offline Mode Back To The New Google Maps App : July 2013

Image
The new Google Maps for Android just started shipping late last night, but folks are already bein’ all grumpy about the sudden disappearance of one of Maps’ old features: offline map mode. In previous releases of Maps, users could save chunks of the map for later use (like when you’re traveling abroad on a roaming plan and downloading a few megabytes of data would cost you somewhere between seven and eight billion dollars.) In new Maps, you can’t. Google says the feature just wasn’t totally ready for the new version yet. But wait! There’s an easter egg that kinda-sorta brings it back.
When you want to cache a map for later perusal, here’s all you’ve got to do:Zoom the map view to the region you want to cacheTap the search barType “Okay maps” (an homage to the “Okay, Glass” voice-command used on Google Glass)Hit the search button Bam! Cache’d. It’s not quite as easy as the old “Make available offline” button used to make it and it might freak out every once in a while (hence it being a…

Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) : Review

Image
7/10
Colorful, creative, fun and relate-able characters. Not a dull moment, great pace. a must watch, a definite turn around for  Mila Kunis. Franco is fun. Zach Braff fans will rejoice ! Fantasy Ahoy !

World War Z (2013) : Review

Image
6.5/10
The characters of the movie are learning what zombies can and cannot do - which we have already learnt over the past dozen of movies. It is watchable for Brad - but then he is only actor in this movie running from place to place. The story is similar to Contagion - but on a large scale with ridiculous human to zombie conversion and zombie pile on gfx. Not convinced - not that much fun ride. Memorable scenes - from Israel's wall. Please don't make a sequel.

Warm Bodies (2013) : Review

Zombies wanting to become humans again - interesting turn around - with romcom. New direction - good acting - kinda believable and funny character. Pace is fine - gets a bit slow in between and then picksup again. Memorable scenes a few.

Trance (2013) : Review

Image
7.5/10
a good suspense physcological thriller - James McAvoy has been ever impressive since Wanted and Xmen - does not disappoint here - he is being driven by Slumdog's directory. A fast paced and very confusing movie - which straightens it strings by the end. Dont miss even a minute or be left in a trance.

The Purge (2013) : Review

Image
5.5/10
Interesting story, first half has good story - fast pace - thrill ride - scare tactics et all. The preparations are for a classic movie. The 2nd half is bummer repeat of dull story less - aimless direction. They might not garner a sequel based on this creativity. But yes Ethan Hawke is watchable as usual.

The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) : Review

Image
7.5/10
A saga, a classic, the smooth flow the transition of movie from one actor to another, from one story line to another - is just amazing. Gosling and Bradley are awesome. a must watch.

Snitch (2013) : Review

Image
5.5/10
A little unbelievable premise, it was not Dwayne that keeps the movie, its Jon Bernthal from The Walking Dead who has some good acting and believable character. 2nd half is skip able routine. Could have been a better one with better pace and sequel to Walking Tall for The Rock

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012) : Review

Image
6.5/10
effectively explains how people would react in the final moments, funny little Carell is amazing. Keira feels misplaced. Good story - good pace - engaging. Yet nothing super memorable about it either.

Olympus Has Fallen (2013) : Review

Image
7/10
this is what Die Hard 5 or 24 the movie should have been. Interesting unique new action sequences. Definitely something you have not seen. 2nd half is medium paced - but overall satisfactory ride. a must watch for Gerard fans. Bunch of memorable scenes.

John Dies at the End (2012) : Review

Image
7/10
Instant cult classic feeling in the first 10 minutes you are watching the movie, the way it transcends and keeps moving from one unimaginable thing to another is just neat. Funny and horrifying at same time. a must must watch.

Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) : Review

Image
6/10
taking the classic on the big screen, then 3d'ing it - big step. Good gfx - worth the scale of the movie. Easy to following story and believable characters - goes over the top a few times. Entertaining with good comedy is decent. Watch in HD.

Jack Reacher (2012) : Review

Image
7/10
watched it twice already in two weeks, which indicates that this is a good mystery thriller. Fast / medium paced - thrill ride with good investigative methods. Tom is in his usual cool yet does not enter into over-confidence - which is good. Supporting cast is perfect. a must watch - a keeper.

Gangster Squad (2013) : Review

Image
6.5/10
Sean Penn doing a Godfather - new, Ryan Lover boy [seen that before already], Josh a bad ass cop [that is almost new],  Emma eye candy - seen that before. Its untouchables with more style, watchable but doesn't bring anything new, oodles of style and smooth flow. Not class but good.

Dead Man Down (2013) : Review

Image
6/10
a simple premise - gang wars + revenge + romance, Colin is good, Terrance is under used, Noomi is confused. a slow but intriguing story. Have you seen something like this before yes ?
