Rooting 'Samsung Galaxy 3' I5801 + Live Wallpapers

ROOTING \\
in a oneliner = Rooting is the process by which you regain administrative access to your phone. It opens up otherwise impossible options to your phone.

To Root or not to Root >
Does your kinda-new Android handset already feel old, slow, and left behind? With a quick hack and a custom ROM, your Android phone can look and feel fresher and, most importantly, run a bit quicker.

Are you generally averse to messing with a device that delivers sometimes-important phone calls? Let us argue that the process is easy and the rewards are great - a few unique and new features from the hacker community, and—oh, yeah, did I mention the speed and stability?

Here is the tutorial >
Howto root your I5800 the easy way (without software and still keep all your data and settings)

This method will keep all your data and settings! this means the phone will not be factory resetted.
You won't need the Android SDK tools to go in recovery mode! or use Odin3

Reported to work on all firmwares!* (even simlocked devices and phones with voodoo fix etc) but use at your own risk! (it is pretty safe and foolproof!)

If you wan't to unroot (to avoid waranty problems) you can unroot your phone!

* This method is not working for Froyo 2.2 roms
* For people that don't have the 3 button combo i made a small script to boot in to recovery. See tutorial below

!!! Disclaimer: If you brick your phone it's your own problem! But it is fairly safe because you can still reflash your phone with Odin3

Only root your phone if you feel the need to! (like applying the lagfix or for use with certain backup apps)

ROOT includes:
- Superuser 2.3.6.1

- Busybox 1.16.0 (for use with Titanium Backup)

Automated Method!

This method works for phones with and without the 3 button combo!
Rooting works on the following models:

- I9000
- I9000M
- I9000B
- I9000T
- SGH-T959 (Vibrant)
- I5800
- I5801

Howto (un)root:

1. Download SGS Eclair Easy Rooting.zip
2. Unzip the directory somewhere
3. Open start.bat
4. Follow instructions

Manual method of getting into recovery console >
power off
(vol up+vol down+home +power )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIVE WALLPAPERS  \\
Android 2.1 - Eclair was launched with Live Wallpapers - a snazzy little enhancement from your static wallpapers...

Requirement of getting Live Wallpapers installed on your Samsung Galaxy 3 - 1 - rooted OS.

Download : Livewallpaper

unzip file in sdcard

download terminal emulator from market

and follow >

su
mount -o remount,rw,codepage=utf8,vfat,xattr,check=no /dev/stl5 /system
cat /sdscard/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk > /system/app/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
cat /sdscard/libRS.so > /system/lib/libRS.so
cat /sdscard/librs_jni.so > /system/lib/librs_jni.so
reboot

Now you have an awesomer looking Android phone !

Kindly explain in a little detail what to do.. im new to all this

    ReplyDelete
  21. redo the rooting, use the terminal emulator from here > http://www.appbrain.com/app/android-terminal-emulator/jackpal.androidterm

    follow these properly -

    su
    mount -o remount,rw,codepage=utf8,vfat,xattr,check=no /dev/stl5 /system
    cat /sdscard/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk > /system/app/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
    cat /sdscard/libRS.so > /system/lib/libRS.so
    cat /sdscard/librs_jni.so > /system/lib/librs_jni.so
    reboot

when you run 'su' it prompts asking for rights- that gives you access to system.

  23. Hi Bro.. Is there any difference in battery consumption if we have live wallpapers.. e.g. aqurium wall paper from android market

    ReplyDelete
  24. live wallpaper is fancy stuff and battery gets consumed due to excessive processor usage - also performance degradation at times. Battery output will reduce no doubt - depends on usage, ive seen it reduce by 25% + or 1 few....make sure ur charger is around with you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thank You. Could you please provide couple of best applications (Games/good stuff) for Samsung Galaxy3 I5801. Ofcourse free ones :-).. I have taken the mobile very recently.. I dont have any applcations it.

  46. @freaky - install Titanium backup tools - which would confirm ur 'rooted' phone

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks AGAIN for your expertise, but I still have a question about the Live Wallpapers and the TE part...
Do I have to incorporate the Terminal Emulator into the script to proceed with working a Live Wallpaper or is it optional? Because even after rooting (Superuser is working, so I'm guessing its rooted perfectly) when I Long Press---> Wallpaper, there is nothing visible like 'Live Wallpapers'. Is this a functional error or a scripting problem, because I haven't yet tried the Terminal Emulator.
    Cheers!
PS: Great work pal...You really know your work :) :D XD
